Weekly Update September 25th

Greetings All,

For starters we would like to thank everyone who came and or brought food to the pot luck last week. The food and the conversation were both great. I think we can label our first Home-group pot luck a success. This week we are back to our regular meeting format. Erica will be teaching on 2 Corinthians 1: 1-11. We have included the selection at the bottom of the email. So now it's short and easily accessible so definitely try to read through it once before Thursday.

Some things to think/pray about this week: Julie and Peter are leaving for Cambodia this Sunday after Church. I would ask everyone to please pray for them before/after/during this trip. These kind of trips have a tendency to life changing experiences and I am sure that they both covet your prayers and support. Also pray for Kim and Nathan. Nathan has a much heavier than normal course load this semester and they are responsible for our home-groups Bryden Place ministry. Please pray for them and we really need to support them with a good turn out on October 4th at Bryden Place(that's in two weeks).

Some things of a more administrative nature to consider. Do we as a Home-Group wish to do anything special to celebrate: Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Christmas. These type of gatherings if done right can be very new-person-friendly not to mention are generally a good time. We would appreciate anyones ideas in this regard.

9/26/06(tomorrow) - Asia's Hope Benefit/Skreened.com launch party (go to: centralvineyard.com for details)
9/28/06 - Regular Meeting - Erica teaches 2 Cor. 1:1-11
10/01/06 - Julie and Peter leave for Cambodia
10/04/06 - Bryden Place
10/12/06 - Regular Meeting - Brian teaches 2 Cor. 1:12 - 2 Cor. 2: 4
10/19/06 - Pot Luck Dinner
10/26/06 - Regular Meeting - teaching TBA
10/31/06 - Halloween - Beggar's Night

That does it for this week, remember if you have any announcements please email them to us at briancarlson350(at)sbcglobal(dot)net and we will distribute to the group. This way we can keep announcements during home-group to an absolute minimum.

Thanks,

Brian & Erica

2 Corinthians 1: 1-11

1Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother,
To the church of God in Corinth, together with all the saints throughout Achaia:

2Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

The God of All Comfort
3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. 5For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. 6If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. 7And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.

8We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about the hardships we suffered in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired even of life. 9Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. 10He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, 11as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our[a] behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many.

Weekly Update September 18th

Greetings Friends,

First off, this Thursday is pot-luck night. My understanding is that everyone is to bring whatever it is that they want to eat and share it with everyone. It should prove interesting. Erica and I will provide the drinks and chips. We don't have anyone lined up to give a testimony. So I think we will probably do Vespers - probably after dinner.

There is not a lot of new news from the home front this week. I would like to remind everyone to continue praying for Bryden Place, and if you feel led to fast as Nathan and Kim suggested I would encourage you to do so. One of the things I would like to talk about this week are some possible ideas for activities and such for Bryden Place. One of the things on the table at the moment is the idea of taking some additional rhythm instruments with us so that the residents can participate a bit more in some of the worship. So be thinking about it and let us know your ideas.

Last and quite possibly least. We will be celebrating our first annual International Talk Like a Pirate day celebration on Tuesday September 18th at the Carlson estate. We will be celebrating by playing the game: Pirates! and enjoying drinks made with tropical fruit. If your interested just stop on by. The festivities start around 6 p.m..

The Current Schedule is as follows:

9/18/06 - International Talk Like a Pirate Day Celebration at The Carlson's
9/21/06 - Dinner - Potluck - Vespers
9/28/06 - regular meeting - Erica teaches 2 Cor. 1
10/04/06 - Bryden Place
10/12/06 - Regular Meeting - Brian teaches 2 Cor. 2

The Week Ending September 17th

Greetings Friends,

Here is a timely update from the good folks at the Kelso Homegroup:

First off: we are meeting this week - 6:30 pm here at 350 Kelso Road. If you haven't been here yet and need directions, just drop me a line and will send them to you. Mark is teaching on the second half of 1 Corinthians: 15 this week, so please read ahead. It makes for a good discussion if everyone has read the passage before we start talking about it. I have included it in the email I sent out this week....so no excuses.

Second: Bryden Place totally rocked this week. Thank you to everyone who came out. Also, make it a point thank Kim and Nathan for the amazing job they are doing to head up this ministry for us. And just so everyone knows there may be some slight scheduling changes for Bryden Place as the Church at large attempts to integrate some of the newer home-groups into the rotation. Your flexibility is greatly appreciated. Please stay tuned to your email or this CVKelso weblog for details.

Third: The option for some sort of Pumpkin type event is still in the works for late October. I am considering a pumpkin carving party of some sorts- so be thinking of ideas please - more to come.

OK here is the schedule as it stands for the rest of September:

9/14/06 - regular meeting - Mark teaches 1 Cor. 15:32-58
9/15/06 - Deadline - Pete and Julie need to have all their $ for Cambodia Trip
9/21/06 - Dinner - Potluck - menu to be determined - Vespers
9/28/06 - regular meeting - Erica teaches 2 Cor. 1
10/04/06 - Bryden Place
10/12/06 - Regular Meeting - Brian teaches 2 Cor. 2

**This schedule is subject to change so please pay attention**
